Water Softening Explained The Easy Way

Common occurrences of hard water are as follows:
  • Water spots and film appearing on your dishes and stainless steel sinks and appliances.
  • Clogged faucets, valves and pipes.
  • Ring in your toilets and bath tub.
  • The need to use up to four times more detergent and soaps.
  • Soap scum build up.
  • Itchy dry skin.
  • Dull limp hair.
  • Less efficiency, shortened life and higher costs for your water heater.
Water softeners remove the minerals from your water and here is how it works...

Your incoming water is directed into your water softener and as the hard water flows through
the resin beads in the tank, the hard water particles stick to the resin beads.  The water that comes out of the tank is soft and/or mineral free.

After about a week the resin beads become saturated with calcium and magnesium, so the resin beads have to be regenerated or cleaned.  This is where adding salt to your water softener comes in to play:
water mixes with the salt in the outer tank and forms a Brine.  This brine flows through the resin beads cleaning and recharging them, and then this water is washed away typically once a week on a pre-set schedule.

Keep in mind here at J&S we offer FREE Water Testing, and check out our water softener systems comparisons here: http://www.js-services.ca/html/watersoftener.html

in my world: drinking water is an essential part of life

Quality of Your Drinking Water
The simple fact is we can no longer take the quality of our drinking water for granted.
Private well water can be affected by any number of contaminating factors, while even
municipally treated water that meets all federal guidelines has been found to contain
bacteria, viruses and protozoa, along with a host of other contaminants.

And while funny tastes and odor, or water that appears cloudy, can be signs of
impurities, many harmful contaminants can only be detected through proper testing.

Bye-bye, bottled water
Eliminate the expense and waste of bottled water.  Purifying your home's water
is much cheaper than buying bottled, and using a refillable container to carry
pure Water will prevent thousands of single-serve plastic bottles from adding
to our landfills.
